Working under a learning college philosophy (http://www.estrellamountain.edu/learning-college) and placing learning first anyway, anyplace, anytime. The person in this position will provide a variety of support services via an internship in the Life Science Laboratories. The federal work study student will assist with the everyday running and maintenance of the biology labs. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the vision of the college and the life science department.

Hours: 10 hours per week for 8 weeks (depending on students' availability) 

End date: This is an 8 week internship opportunity, students will be required to complete a total of 80 hours in the lab.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  1. 30% Prepares media such as agar plates and broth test tubes, solutions

  2. 25% Running the autoclave, washing and sterilizing glassware

  3. 25% Restocking and cleaning labs

  4. 20% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements: 

  1. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for Fall 2018

  2. Must have taken and passed or be currently enrolled in BIO 181 or BIO 156

  3. Evidence of past reliability (can be demonstrated in a letter from previous instructor)

  4. Evidence of ability to take direction and having a willingness to learn

  5. Experienced in biology and/or chemistry

  6. Students looking to graduate with an associates in science

  7. Experience organizing and prioritizing work

  8. Must have to be able to work with bacteria and biology specimens such as those found in a college biology course

  9. May have to lift 25 lbs.
