WHAT is a STEM Ambassador?
Being a STEM Ambassador is about engaging and inspiring people through education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Ambassadors help encourage students to consider further study of STEM subjects and progression into related careers, inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals. This outreach is often focused on title I schools since these student are at a disadvantage of obtaining a higher education.
As a STEM Ambassador, college students chance to develop their own skills while using their education and enthusiasm to encourage learning. This is done through hands-on activities, community outreach, and student lead workshops.
STEM Ambassadors play a vital role in encouraging more people to consider STEM careers and develop their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Involvement can enhance leadership and professional skills, while boosting confidence in one's own knowledge in the STEM field. Involvement can also help build relationships with STEM professional and enhance career development opportunities

Duties and Responsibilities: 

What are the benefits of being a STEM Ambassador?

  • Earn money by inspiring other to pursue a STEM degree
  • Interns gain experience in leading and facilitating STEM workshops
  • Ambassadors build their own skills that will help them stand out while applying for outside Internships, and applications to universities
  • Often students will work side by side with STEM industry partners
  • Mentor current and future potential students
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Applicants must be eligible for Federal Work Study
  • Students must be enrolled and in at least six credits hours at EMCC for Spring 2020
  • Passion for STEM
  • Good communication skills
  • Familiarity with STEM programs, or pathways
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and dependable
  • Some experience working with K-12 students
  • Involved in undergraduate research (preferred) such as EPIC, NASA ASCEND, PHY 294, or similar
  • Willingness to participate in occasional weekend and evening activities
