Job Summary: 

The Academic Advising team is seeking support staff for cohort advising and administrative duties. These positions assist in creating a welcoming and supportive college environment; providing beginning level advising services to students in assigned Field of Interest (FOI); and making appropriate referrals to other services on campus. These positions provide administrative support to efforts identified to promote and build student retention, completion, and success. These positions are based in a relational customer service mindset and by treating each individual with respect and kindness to make their experience with EMCC a positive one. 

Essential Functions: 

70%- Provides entry level advising support one-on-one or in group setting to new, continuing,and prospective students in-person, by phone, online or by email; provides advising support to students regarding general program/degree requirements and university transfer options in assigned Field of Interest (FOI); Assists students in the enrollment process; assists students during educational journey.

25%-Provides support to retention/enrollment activities and events sponsored by the assigned FOI under the effort of Guided Pathways. Creates and delivers presentations, orientations, or workshops in a group format; Directs students to college resources and provides general information about the college; Assists in facilitating student learning and use of self-service functions and all student services processes including admissions, placement testing, general financial aid, and basic payment details.

5%-Provide administration support to assigned FOI including but not limited to responding to email inquiries, ordering forms, maintaining copies for welcome center/front desk. Performs other duties as assigned commensurate to the level of the position

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Eligibility for Federal Work Study.

  • One (1) year or more experience providing direct front-line customer service.

  • Experience communicating effectively in person and in writing.

  • Willing to learn and share information about college resources; a genuine desire to help students succeed.

  • Maintain a courteous, friendly mannerism when working with students and staff in-person, virtually, or on the phone.

  • Perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to details.

  • Experience working with a diverse population of students or customers.

  • Keep a work schedule and present yourself in a professional manner.

Desired Qualifications: 
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office or Google products to perform assignments

  • Experience working with PeopleSoft, electronic forms, reporting systems or similar applications

  • Experience with public speaking

  • Applicants who are bilingual in Spanish and able to demonstrate fluency (written and spoken) are highly preferred

Special Working Conditions: 

Schedule is based on the operational needs of the department and EMCC.

This position will work 100% On-campus, no remote option.
