Description: 

Freedom Plaza retirement facility will offer an intern real world culinary experience. The student is asked to do basic baking.  This is a PAID internship at $10 per hour.  The company has asked that the intern work for 40 hours per week (they are flexible with working less hours) during the early morning shift.  Great starting position to learn total back of house operation. Opportunity for advancement is depending on the individual. Applicants must be continuing EMCC culinary program students and have a minimum of 2.5 G.P.A. Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Basic baking
  • Ability to mulit-task and read and follow recipes.
  • Be creative and not be afraid to use your imagination
  • Clean area used and organize inventory.
  • Assist line cooks with prep for service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report to the Internship Manager as requested.
Prerequisites: 

- Letter of recommendation from Chef Griffiths.  Please email this to the Internship Manager (landis.elliott@estrellamountain.edu) before you apply.

- Able to pass a drug test 

- Ability to pass a background check

-Complete Freedom Plaza's Orientation 

Minimum Requirements: 
  • Ability to read and follow recipes, use any and all kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to stand long periods of time.
  • Must be enrolled in the Culinary Arts program, pursuing a degree or certificate. -Proficient with knife skills as well as possess a personal knife set to work with on site. -Successful completion (C or better) of the following first year culinary courses:**
  • CUL113 Commercial Baking
  • CUL127 Commercial Baking II:  Classical Desserts
  • CUL109 Menu Planning and Development or HRM126 Food Cost Systems
  • Not required, but recommended-CUL137 Specialty Breads and Breakfast Pastry
  • HRM244 Quality Sanitation Management or FON104 Certification in Food Safety and Sanitation
  • **Some exceptions may be made based upon internship requirements and permission from Chef Griffiths.
  •  Possess a current Maricopa County Food Handlers Card
  • Strong team and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate strong motivation in culinary courses.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb and be on your feet for much of the shift.
