This intern supports the Theater Technical Coordinator and is supervised by the Coordinator of the Fine Arts Facilities and Instructional Technology. While this is an unpaid internship, the Technical Theater Intern learns how to program and utilize lights and sound for theater, dance, music, and event productions. The Technical Theater Intern learns about set design and how to build sets, as well as how to utilize rigging for various stage scenarios. These skills look fantastic on a résumé for students who wish to pursue any of the following fields: Lighting Designer, Set Designer, Sound Designer, and Technical Director, as well as Sound Engineer (concerts), and Light Engineer (concerts). If you enjoy working with the latest technology in sound and lighting production, as well as on creative construction projects, this internship is for you!

Applicants must be continuing EMCC students OR dual enrollment and have a minimum of 2.5 G.P.A or a recommendation from your SWSC instructor. Duties and Responsibilities: 

Learn from and assist the Theater Technical Coordinator and the Coordinator of the Fine Arts Facilities and Instructional Technology with the following:
* Build sets and props
* Set-up, Move, Break-down sets, props, and instruments
* Maintain theater and studio spaces so they are performance, rehearsal, and learning
* Program and run (with guided supervision) the lighting board for performances
* Program and run (with guided supervision) the sound board for performances
* Assist with back-of-the-house duties (set changes, rigging, etc.) for performances

Minimum Requirements: 
  • Continuing EMCC student
  • Min of a 2.5 GPA
  • REQUIRED to work some evenings and weekends to support performances

The Technical Theater Intern needs to be willing and able to learn and perform the following physical requirements:
1. Build, maintain, move, change, and store sets and props (i.e., stage property)
2. Program and run lights for the stage
3. Program and run sound for the stage
4. Walk up stairs and ladders
5. Work with their hands and use their arms for rigging (raising and lowering scenery and curtains)
6. Work with tools and power tools
