Job Summary: 

The EXCEL Program at Estrella Mountain Community College is hiring peer mentors to work under the learning college philosophy and placing learning first anyway, anyplace and anytime. This position promotes, reinforces, and supports the EXCEL Program by directly assisting students with their personal and academic goals. Peer mentors serve as advocates and champions for students and their overall success by providing one-on-one support and guidance.

Essential Functions: 

80% - Conducts one-on-one meetings with program participants weekly, individually or in small groups; provides participants information regarding student support services and resources. 10% - Assists in coordinating various EXCEL Program initiatives and events 5% - Assists with EXCEL student orientations and workshops 5% - Assists with EXCEL Program recruitment efforts; performs other duties equivalent to grade level of position

Minimum Qualifications: 

* Must be a current EMCC student OR EMCC alumni enrolled at a local university during the 2017/2018 Academic Year * Must have completed a minimum of 30 college credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher * Effective written communication skills * One year or more experience in a leadership role * Experience working with Microsoft Office or similar applications

Desired Qualifications: 

* Experience in formal or informal peer-to-peer mentoring * Experience in a leadership role in a student club/organization, campus committee or college project

Special Working Conditions: 

May require some weekends and evenings to support EXCEL Program initiatives.
